The 13 All Star National team will go down not once, but two times for their outstanding appearance at the AAU National Tournament, led by the expertise coaching of one of Metro's former alumni and current
Coach and Marketing Director, Coach Katie Hybnerova. For the first time in Metro history the team was ranked #1 in the tournament after 3 days of playing. They marked one of the best records any Metro team has ever recorded going 9-1 at a National Tournament and capturing 5th place for the highest finish of any Metro team in a National Tournament. They had the second highest point percentage of 71 teams that competed in their category, with an incredible point ratio of 1.4613.
From the very first match of the tournament, Metro came out on fire! BOMBA steam rolled over their first opponent defeating them 25-4;25-13. After shutting down their next opponent Union 13, they faced the number 14 ranked team in the tournament. Dropping game 1 by a close margin 25-23, the girls new they had to pick it up and that they did winning the next two games 25-13; 15-9 to take the match 2-1!
Day 2 the girls were just as strong winning match 1 with force 25-12; 25-14. The first game of match 2 the girls found themselves down 23-25. Losing game 1 lit a fire in the girls and they came out with a furry and dominated game 2 winning 25-14. Game 3 team BOMBA picked up where they left off and never looked back winning 15-11. The last game of day 2 Metro’s BOMBA shocked the #16 ranked OVA Molten and put them away easily in 2!
On day 3 the team was faced with their history making challenge. After breezing by the #27 and #15 ranked team, they found themselves going into the last game of the day facing #1 ranked team Queens from Puerto Rico. The team brought and left everything they had on the court and it showed! Game 1 BOMBA outscored Queens an astonishing 25-11. In game two history was set in stone with a victory win 25-17!! Metro 13 All-Star National team BOMBA had just become the first ever Metro/Delta Region team to be ranked #1 at Nationals. The girls were ecstatic they knew what they had just accomplished and that day they were #1 in the country, something that few teams rarely get to say.
The last day of the Junior National Tournament, the morning started with a first round by for the team in the gold bracket! Metro’s first match of the day was against Power 13 Black who had previously played a morning game. Power 13 Black came out strong and ready to play, while Metro just couldn’t get in the groove. They took a tough first game loss and knew that they would have to fight in order to keep their tournament hopes alive. They fought, but could not pull of the win loosing game two 25-21. It was a heart breaking loss, but the girls kept their heads held high! BOMBA knew that the y had achieved great strides, and their tournament appearance would only be a beginning to what the future holds for the team and Metro!
17 POWER 5th at AAU National Tournament
17 All Star National 5th at AAU National Tournament
After the great start by the 13 National team, the 17 All Star National team POWER followed right along creating their own spot in Metro history book. Head Coach Jitka Okolicany set out with her team, guiding her players with an extensive knowledge, strategy, and passion of the game. Coach Jitka's team played their hearts out and went undefeated the first two days of tournament play.
On Day 3 they found themselves battling in pool play. Their first match of the day was an intense breath taking one. The first game went in favor of Metro 25-22. The second game they were down and instead of going into 3 games, they fought back one point at a time until the score was within two. The two teams just did not stop, trading point after point until finally POWER put the game away winning 34-32. POWER then faced their second opponent of the day, they battled for a tough match loss losing in 3 games. Also in their pool was #8 ranked KIVA White. The only way for them to come out at the top of their pool and with hopes of still making it to Gold was to defeat KIVA. This would be no easy tasks with KIVA always being a dominating force and a top ranked. Metro knew what they had to do and with their game plan set, they attacked! They stunned the KIVA team shutting them down 25-21; game two was another close one, Metro was able to come out on top! With that POWER gained KIVA’s previous ranking and found themselves in the #8 ranked spot. With all of the stats in place the pool went into a three way tie. Because Metro defeated KIVA in 2 games, a task that no other team in the pool accomplished, it placed them in the #1 seed. With that POWER gained KIVA’s previous ranking and found themselves in the #8 ranked spot.
After winning their pool, Metro was faced with a cross over match that evening they had to win in order to hang on to their #8 rank. They went up against a very disciplined and well skilled team M-Juniors. After losing the game 1 25-20, the team knew that they could not afford to lose the next game. Every point mattered in game 2, with heart and determination the team came out on top in another close one 27-25. The third game was just as intense as the 2nd both teams fought point for point. With M-Juniors being the first to 8 Metro took a crucial time out and the girls rallied back to take game 3 with a score 17-15.
The last day of the tournament the team knew they would be facing other challenging teams. First up was ranked #9 team Tsunami. Metro showed them that they were no match and pounded them 25-17; 25-17. That put POWER up facing the #1 ranked team in the tournament A5 Mizuno. A5 took game 1 25-17, but just as quickly Metro turned it around and took game 2 25-18. Metro could not hang on in the 3rd game and it slipped away giving them their final loss 15-8. (A5 Mizuno went on to finish 2nd in the tournament)
Overall 17 All-Star National POWER recorded a 10-2 record winning 22 games and only losing 5. They finished with a point ratio percentage of 1.2252. The team left with their best finish ever at a National Tournament, and turned many eyes of college recruiters looking on. Scarlet Gable was also announced to the All- Tournament Team, the first player ever from Metro to make a National Tournament Team selection! Congratulations on making your mark in Metro history!
Metro 14 Chaos Rocks at USAV Nationals in Reno, NV
14 All Star National 5th at USAV Nationals
Last but not least the 14 All Star National CHAOS set off with the rare greatness of a mother/daughter combo of coaches. Coach Jitka Okolicany and daughter Coach Katie Hybnerova had high hopes for this team to make their own mark in Metro history. CHAOS had high standards set by the other 2 Metro teams, but they were up for the challenge! After 4 days of play they made themselves a spot in Metro history becoming the 3rd Metro team to finish 5th at a National tournament. With that, they were also the highest finishing team out of all Delta Region Clubs at a USAV National Tournament, improving greatly on their finish from last year!
Day 1 CHOAS got off on a good start facing their first team of the day they showed a very strong appearance defeating Williamsburg 14 Black easily in 2 games 25-13, 25-11. Match 2 of the day, their opponent was not going to let them take it the match easily. They battle out a 3 game intense match. The first game they were able to win 25-19, the second they dropped just short losing 23-25, then the excitement came in the 3rd game with both teams going at each other, the score pushed on past 15 points until Metro’s CHAOS was finally able to finish it off with a score 22-20 in the third game. The last match of day 1 was also a tough match for CHAOS. It was another 3 game close one. Going into the 3rd game with both teams tied 1game a piece, CHAOS could not keep up with their last opponent losing the 3rd game 15-12.
Going into day 2, the girls had a fire lit up inside them from losing the close match from the day before. They were not going to let that happen again! They put too much effort into the season to watch it slip away in 3 games. The first match of the day they played very consistent defeating the first team in both games with a score of 25-22. The second match of the day they found themselves once again in a very familiar situation going into 3 games. This time they were ready taking the 3rd game 15-11. Going undefeated the second day put them in a good position going into day 3.
Day 3 would be the day that determined just how hard the girls were willing to fight. They were up against their toughest competitors yet facing the 18th, 3rd, and 14th ranked teams in the tournament. Team CHAOS put their game face on ready for war. They took down their first opponents of the day easily in two, and were ready to face the #3 team in the tournament. The first game was very close with Metro losing 23-25. Metro was not going to stand down , game 2 they game out on top with a 25-21 win. The next game was another close one for the girls, but they were victorious and defeated the #3 team with a win of 15-13. With a win in their 3rd game Metro was now ranked the number 3 seed for coming in 1st in the pool that day.
On the last day, Metro's first game up was the #6 ranked team Amarillo Aces 14-1. They took the first game coming out strong in the early points before sealing the game 25-22. The next game Amarillo came right back defeating Metro with the same score 25-22. That sent them once more into a third game. The girls came out very strong and battled out the third game, before coming up slightly short 2 points losing the third game 15-13. That ended Metro’s tournamen appearancet, but not before they were able to set Metro History and claim the best finish of any team in the Delta Region. Congratulations on your accomplishments!
